Sample ImageOn the morning of January 31, 2013 dignitaries from Government, Embassies and Consulates, Universities and United Nations agencies gathered at the local office of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to virtually attend the inauguration of Dr. Carissa Etienne as the 10th Director of PAHO and Regional Director for the Americas of the World Health Organization.

Dr. Jean Dixon, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health in her opening remarks stated that, “Dr. Etienne was recommended to assist Jamaica with our thrust to strengthen primary health care.

Celebrating the Gift of Blood - Every Blood Donor is a Hero

On 14 June 2012, countries worldwide will celebrate World Blood Donor Day with events to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.  World Blood Donor Day was established by the World Health Assembly in 2004 and its scope of events increases every year in recognition of the need to strengthen blood services and to express gratitude to all those selfless individuals who donate their blood for people they will never meet.

Leaders in International Health Program 2012

Kingston - 11 May 2012 

2012 represents the fifth year that PAHO/WHO’s Edmundo Granda Ugalde Leaders in International Health Program (LIHP)  is being offered in its new decentalized format.  To date, 185 participants from 31 countries have benefited from this new modality which is based on a dynamic collaboration with the PAHO/WHO Country Offices and national institutions in the countries of the participants.  The Program had a record of 65 professionals from 23 countries participating in the LIHP 2011.
